SANJEL ENERGY DELIVERS PROVEN, HIGH-VALUE SOLUTIONS IN THE SHAUNAVON
Challenges
The Shaunavon play, a variable mix of limestone, shale and sandstone, is generally an oil target and may include the Upper or Lower Shaunavons, Roseray, Rush Lake and the Success formations. This play presents separate and unique cementing challenges as the Upper and Lower Shaunavon formations are typically shale, while the others are sandstone. The upper Colorade group of formations are clay rich, and if the clay swells it is difficult to achieve a good cement bond which could lead to a surface casing vent flow. Low well temperatures make it challenging to achieve ideal cement properties at low densities to combat gas migration issues. Shaunavon wells require a value orientated blend that can economically meet the need for cost and cement performance.
Solutions
Sanjel Energy’s SURFACEmix LW PRO, specifically optimized for the Shaunavon play, delivers short wait on cement times with lightweight cost effective surface blends and optimizes cement design for monobore completions as well as those with an intermediate and liner casing design. These optimized regional cement designs, coupled with Sanjel Energy’s deep knowledge of the region, performance and service execution, delivers an industry leading cementing value in the Shaunavon area.
Additional capabilities include:
- LITEmix lead cement designs reduce costs and ensure cement returns in areas not prone to gas migration
- PRODUCTIONmix blends deliver mid-density slurry options that effectively combat gas intrusion, withstand fracturing stresses and show good cement returns to surface. Results
- Reduced SCVFs by 30 percent before fracturing operations
- Successfully cemented over 200 wells in the Shaunavon area in the last 12 months
- Optimized cement designs for all the various sub-areas of the Shaunavon for each common casing and completion design
- Occurrences of vent flows are dramatically decreased
- Fracturing and completions successfully executed after cementing the production laterals
